How to Deal with High School Pressure

BACK TO SCHOOL :)

Hey girls,

Now that school has basically started I wanted to do a quick post on different High School Pressure you may encounter.
High school years can be some of the toughest years of your life, not only are you in between being considered as a child and an adult, you are also given more liberty and responsibilities. And you are also faced with TOUGH decisions.

I am in my junior year of high school currently and I have already dealt with a lot of these things, I feel I have learned to pick and choose friends that will not hurt me or make me do bad things and I also feel that I have held on to my mother's trust very well...

On Picking Friends...

Picking friends is something you have to pay particular attention to. Some people in High School love gossip and are not interested in what you actually are going to school to do.. LEARN.
Try to meet new people and get to know them.. if you feel comfortable and are sure that they won't backstab you or hurt you then be friends. Sometimes it is best to have a lot of different types of friends for example people interested in sports, or in the student council, or people interested in clubs.
If you are a freshman I recommend joining different clubs that share your interests, it is a great way to do something for your school while having fun :)
High school is supposed to be a happy experience, don't ruin it by gossiping or creating trouble.

On Gossiping and Backstabbing...

Obviously you never know a person well enough, and you might have to deal with rumors, lies, and backstabbing. The only thing I can recommend is to keep SUPER DUPER PERSONAL stuff to yourself, try to not give up your whole life story to someone that hasn't known you for long. Keep in mind that people are very quick to judge and maybe someone might not like you right when they see you, but that's ok. You don't have to be loved by everyone, and you definitely don't have to change to be liked. If someone is telling you that you have to change to be their friend, then DON'T be their friend.
If gossiping occurs just brush it off, don't add more to the problem by gossiping about that person.. You don't have to stoop to their level. If in your heart you know it isn't true then don't be bothered by it.
On Trust...

Trust, is the most valuable thing we have. You need to be trusted by your parents, friends, coworkers, and anyone else important to you. Don't break that trust by lying, if it you need to lie about it then you probably shouldn't do it. Just make sure you put things on a balance.

On Originality...

In High School originality is lost, everyone forms a clique and everyone has a certain way of thinking about what is "in" or "normal". But just remember, "normal" doesn't exist. Everyone is unique & everyone has a right to be who they are. Be yourself and don't change. If people don't like it oh well.
On Homework & Grades...

These are the four years that will form your future, focus on doing good and on passing your classes. Just remember that all those people that want you to party, not do good, and not pass your classes aren't going to be paying your bills in the future. Knowledge is POWER. If people make fun of you for being a "loner" or hanging out in the library then remind them that they won't be a millionaire when they grow up, they probably will be living in their parent's basement. LOL sorry for being mean >.<
Those are my tips and my guidelines for High School girls....

Ohh and my most important tip of all ....

BE CONFIDENT.

hope this helped,
xoxo

Makeup for School Pictures (Guest Post)

I'm so happy that Jessica agreed to do this post for me.. I was really interested in reading her thoughts because she works with professional photographers and I knew she would have a lot of tips for how to do your makeup in School Pictures. School picture day is that day we have a love-hate relationship with, some people either love their picture or hate it... there is no in between.

Jessica Rivera works as a freelance makeup artist in Florida... please check out her blog. She's AMAZING :) !

And any other questions, tips, suggestions leave them below.

ON TO THE GUEST POST :)

The lovely Marla has asked me to write a guest blog on makeup for your school photos. Now, it has been 6 years since I took school photos, but the same rules apply:

1. Just for that one day, I'd stay away from sunscreen. It could reflect off the flash and give your face a white glow. If you foundation has SPF in it, that is okay as long as you set it with a powder to take away the glossy shine you get from SPF.

2. You might not get to take your photos as soon as you get to school, so you want your makeup to last throughout the school day and lunch! So bring your makeup to school with you and use a face primer and eye primer.

3. Make sure your face primer is made for your skin type. If you are dry, using a rich moisturizer can work as a primer. If you are oily, use a mattifying primer like Urban Decay's De-Slick in a tube primer.

4. If you really want to go the extra mile in making that makeup last and can afford it, set your makeup with a finishing spray. I've heard cheerleaders spray their face with hairspray so that their makeup stays in tact, is that true!?

5. Keep your makeup simple and classic. If you go with some crazy trend, you will look back in 10 years and wish you could take that day back! Neutral makeup is the best way to go. Think about it, the more simple you keep it, less chances of you messing up some crazy cat eyeliner look you thought would look cool.

6. If you fill in your brows, make sure you use a light hand and use a shade lighter than your hair color.

7. Stay away from glitter! The flash reflecting off of it will not make for a cute day picture. Plus, if glitter gets on your face, it'll be worse.

8. Touch up RIGHT before you take your photo. Check for any eyeshadow or mascara fallout, lipstick on the teeth, eye boogers lol

9. Do your makeup at home and take photos. This will teach you how much flash photography washes out your makeup and you will learn how much makeup really needs to be applied. And just to prove a point, here is a picture of me in 10th grade, (I'm the one on the right), and my hair is ridiculous! But at the time, I thought it was so amazing! LOL

Back To School Survival Kit ! :)

VOTE ON MY POLL TO THE LEFT ! * WATCH BACK2SCHOOL TUTORIAL

Hey girls,

Now that I'm heading back to school I wanted to share my "survival kit" or my essential things that I always carry or keep in my locker...
I know that for some of you it might seem a bit much... but keep in mind that we are in school at least 8 hrs and in those 8 hrs MANY things could occur.
I wanted to break down this list into two parts; essentials & beauty items (that you may or may not want to bring)
Some of the beauty items are definitely not "needed" for survival but it does help out in any little rut :)

Essentials:

  • Hand Sanitizer: I definitely recommend purchasing a mini hand sanitizer and having it with you at all times, sometimes school bathrooms don't have soap or sometimes you touch something icky. And school desks are full of germs ! Eeeeek.
  • Pads or Tampons: These are definitely a must for any girl, you don't know when nature will give you a little surprise !
  • Pain Reliever: You can choose from tylenol, advil, or midol... I always carry these because I cramp really bad and I tend to get headaches... it's always handy.
  • Floss or Toothpick or Floss-Toothpicks: After lunch I always floss because I got used to it when I had braces no one wants to have food in their teeth !
  • SUNSCREEN: Always, always, always have this handy. Sunscreen not only protects you from unattractive tan lines but also from skin cancer. Try TOCCA Sunscreen Towelettes they are a bit pricey but very conventional.
  • Hand or Body Lotion: This is always something good to have because since fall and winter is coming up dry skin is common... and it is not attractive !
  • Hair ties and/or bobby pins: These are a must, there are days when you wear your hair down and then it starts bothering you.. so always have something to pin it back :)
  • Tissues: Sneezing can become a real issue if you don't have these handy, if you catch my drift...
  • Mouthwash or Gum or Breathspray: Everyone loves good smelling breath :)
  • Water Bottle: I recommend getting a water bottle with  a filter, they are cute, handy, and  eco friendly.
  • Mini Deodorant: This is a MUST. You always want to smell fresh and clean at school :)
  • A couple of Bandages: I recommend cute Hello Kitty ones, you never know when you can get a paper cut !
For the Hand Sanitizer, Pain Relievers, Tissues, and Deodorant you could find mini sizes at your local dollar store or in the travel section stuff in Wal-Mart :)
Buy mini sizes because it will save you a ton of space.

I also recommend getting the little bottles of lotion and mouthwash from hotels and just filling them with your product of choice because they are smaller than the mini ones from stores.

Beauty:
  • Blotting Paper: I sometimes get oily and these come in handy. Quick tip you could always use the toilet seat covers :) They work just the same !
  • Lipgloss or Chapstick: I always take a lipgloss and Chapstick just in case ...
  • Mini Perfume: Like the ones you get with samples, they are life savers when your looking to freshen up after gym class :)
  • Blotting Powder and Powder Puff or Brush: Not a necessity but it does help on those hot humid days..
  • Mini Hairspray: if you have a lot of trouble with fly aways this will help ..
  • Nail File: In case you break a nail, or to calm your nerves ..
  • Mini Brush: you know those brushes that have a mirror and brush and you fold them... they come in handy !!!!
  • Mirror: If you get the brush I mentioned you will kill two birds with one stone.
  • Tweezers: In case you have a hair out of place or get a splinter in your finger ...
And that's my survival list :)
Midol Pain Reliever, Hand Sanitizer, Mouthwash, Lotion, Chapstick, Lipgloss.
Hello Kitty Band Aids, Bobby Pins, Floss, Mark Cosmetics Blotting Paper, Pad, TOCCA Sunscreen Towelettes,  Hair Tie, Nail File.
MISSING: DEODORANT, MIRROR, BRUSH, TWEEZERS, HAIR SPRAY, WATER BOTTLE, PERFUME, BLOTTING POWDER W/ BRUSH, AND TISSUES. Going to go buy these things :)

Please share your list of survival with me :)

<3
Marla

good luck to all you girls going back to school !

Birchbox #2 :)

VOTE ON MY POLL TO THE LEFT * WATCH MY TUTORIAL

Hey Girls,

After 5 times of trying to film my first impressions of my Birchbox I decided to just keep it plain and simple and write a blog post :)

Now I know a lot of girls have been canceling their subscriptions to Birchbox left & right because the items that they send out are not as "personalized" as some would want... but I have to say personally, I'm very happy with my second Birchbox.

Birchbox gives you the opportunity to test drive products that you wouldn't normally gravitate towards or that your too scared to buy :)

I personally like that it hasn't focused so much on makeup, but more on hair care and skin care...

Of course, I would love to get another full size makeup product in my box ;)
(like the YBF EyeBrow Pencil)

So enough intro let me share what I got :)

  • Number 4 Lumiere D'hiver Reconstructing Masque (original price $58/5.1 oz)
Described as: This rich treatment does more than hydrate - soy proteins strengthen strands from the inside, while light-reflecting polymers add major gloss.

To be used in conjunction with: Fleur de Temps Volumizing Shampoo (orig. $34/8.5 oz)

  • Pangea Organics Cleanser For Combination to Oily Skin (orig. $28/4 fl oz)
Described as: Made from all natural ingredients, this foaming wash purifies pores and keeps oil levels in check without drying out skin.

  • Twistband Hair Tie (orig. $5/set of 3) THIS WAS AN EXTRA !
Described as: This soft elastic gives the hair tie a sophisticated makeover- it looks as good on your wrist as it does in your hair.

  • TOCCA SPF 30+ Sunscreen Towelettes In Stella (orig. $24/10 towelettes)
Described as: Forget Eau' d Coconut- these oversized SPF towelettes are infused with Tocca's Stella, a citrusy scent that channels the Italian Riviera.

  • BVLGARI Mon Jasmine Noir (orig. $80/50 ml)
Described as: The Italian fragrance house's latest winner is a fresh take on the classic fruity floral.

** I ALREADY GAVE THIS TO MY MOM, IT'S TOO SERIOUS OF A SCENT FOR ME.. NOT SWEET ENOUGH**
NO PICTURE SOWWWWY :/

And that was my Birchbox, I am very excited to try out these products ...
And I will give you guys a detailed review on them in about 2 weeks :)

thanks,
MARLA :)
